The Different Types of Water Filters for Your Home

Sometimes you can’t help but wonder what exactly is in your tap water. Maybe it’s because the water from the kitchen sink has a strange taste. Or maybe you just like to be sure you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.

Wherever your concern comes from, a water filter can put your mind at ease.

But there are countless water filtration systems on the market. Not all of them will be right for your needs.

Let’s take a look at the different types of water filters that are available.

Pitcher Filter

A pitcher filter is the most common type of water filter. Most people have used a Brita pitcher at some point. As you fill the pitcher from the tap, the water passes through a built-in filter.

While these are affordable and convenient, they do have some drawbacks.

Pitchers can only hold about ten cups of water, and they have to be refilled often. The filter must be replaced every few weeks as well. It’s also worth noting that there are many low-quality pitchers on the market that won’t effectively treat your water.

Pitcher filters are a great option for those who just want clean drinking water and don’t mind doing regular maintenance.

Sink Filters

There are two types of filters that attach to your sink. The first type goes on your sink’s faucet. This ensures that any water coming into your kitchen is clean. These have a big advantage over pitcher filters because they give you an unlimited water supply.

However, faucet filters do have filters that need to be changed often.

There are also under-sink filters. Like a faucet filter, an under-sink filter cleans all of the water that flows into your kitchen. However, because it attaches to your water line beneath the sink, there is much more room for the filter. Larger filters are more powerful and last longer.

Sink filters are perfect for someone who does a lot of cooking and needs a large supply of clean water.

Refrigerator Filter

Some people prefer to get their drinking water from a water dispenser in their fridge. This gives you an unlimited supply of ice-cold, clean water.

But unless you put a filter on your fridge, you will still be drinking tap water. Refrigerator filters are perfect for families who drink a lot of water and like it to be cold. Samsung filters are some of the most reliable on the market.

Whole House Filter

These are the most expensive type of filters. But, as their name implies, they filter all that water in your house. That means even the water coming from your shower would be clean of unwanted sediment.

This type of filter is perfect for someone whose water source is a private well. Without the government filtering the water for you, you’ll need to do it yourself.

Now You Know the Right Types of Water Filters To Buy

Now that you know the different types of water filters, you can pick the right one for you by assessing your needs. If you just want some extra drinking water, you may be fine with a small pitcher filter. If that’s the case, you can probably find what you need with a quick trip to the hardware store.
